Stellenbosch is set to host the XIV International Pear Symposium from 22 to 26 January 2023 – the first time that the event will be held in Africa. Those who want to present at the conference about the latest research technology related to the pear industry have until 29 July 2022 to submit their abstracts.
The theme for the symposium is “Pear production: now and in the future”. It will be held at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS).
Abstract submissions can be modified until 30 August 2022.
According to one of the co-convenors of the local organizing committee, Prof Elke Crouch of the Stellenbosch University Department of Horticultural Science, the international event provides an opportunity to scientists, researchers, students, technical staff, consultants, nurserymen, growers, and other interested delegates to share their experience and knowledge on the production of pears in challenging climatic and marketing environments.
“These are exciting times where many new technologies and information exists,” she noted.
Those interested in presenting, can consider presentations about planting systems, breeding, postharvest physiology and technology, cultivar and rootstock evaluation, plant nutrition, biotechnology, ecophysiology, reproductive biology, growth regulation, pre-harvest factors that influence post-harvest quality, pest and disease management, plant physiology and aspects on the production and economy of the pear industry.
