Agricultural Economist Uma Lele speaker at Annual Mohammad Karaan Memorial Lecture

The renowned agricultural economist, Dr Uma Lele, will be the keynote speaker at the Annual Mohammad Karaan Memorial Lecture presented by the Faculty of AgriSciences at Stellenbosch University (SU). The lecture is held in honour of the late Dean of the Faculty of AgriSciences, Professor Mohammad Karaan.

The lecture is to be held at 17:30 in Van der Sterr Buildinng, Lecture room 1046 (Entrance 1), Corner of Bosman- and Victoria Street, Stellenbosch on Wednesday, 29 March 2023. The lecture will also be streamed live.

A former Dean of the Faculty of AgriSciences who also served as acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Community Interaction and Personnel at SU, Karaan passed away on 13 January 2021. At the time of his passing, he was a Professor in Agricultural Economics at SU and President of the Maties Rugby Club

Dr Lele will share her views on Africa’s Development Challenges. She is an expert in monitoring and evaluation, and the author of the recent book “Food for all: International organizations and the transformation of agriculture”. Dr Lele has a deep knowledge of the multilateral institutions that make up the architecture of international agricultural development and spent most of her career life working at the World Bank. She is also an Honorary Doctorate recipient at Stellenbosch University (SU) and will be official handed over to her during the March Graduation.
